The Jacksonville Jaguars are the third team to express interest in the Chiefs’ defensive coordinator.
Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has emerged as quite a popular head coaching candidate in this cycle.
Days after Spagnuolo received requests to interview with both the New York Jets and the Las Vegas Raiders, there was an interview request for the defensive coordinator by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday morning.
Following a difficult 4-13 season, the Jaguars parted ways with another former Chiefs coordinator, Doug Pederson, ending his three-year tenure with the club.
Our John Dixon covered Spagnuolo’s journey to the Chiefs on Wednesday.
Spagnuolo has been an assistant coach with five different NFL teams, starting with the Philadelphia Eagles under Andy Reid from 1999 through 2006. He’s been a defensive coordinator for three teams, winning a Super Bowl while with the New York Giants in 2007 and 2008 and three more with Kansas City from 2019 through 2023. He was the head coach of the St. Louis Rams for three seasons starting in 2009 and served as the Giants’ interim head coach in 2017 after returning as DC in 2015.
Spagnuolo recently confirmed he has maintained interest in returning to the head role, making it likely he will be entertaining every prospect.
The Jets also interviewed offensive coordinator Matt Nagy for their head coaching vacancy and Chiefs assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi for their open GM role. In the past 24 hours, the Tennesee Titans have also expressed interest in Borgonzi.
