We still don’t which Kansas City player will start at left tackle during the postseason.
One of the big stories we’re following as the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for Saturday’s Divisional Round matchup against the Houston Texans is how the team will handle the left tackle position during the postseason.
The team signed veteran left tackle D.J. Humphries on November 22, after both Kingsley Suamataia and Wanya Morris had been unable to solidify themselves as starters. But Humphries suffered a hamstring injury during his first start against the Los Angeles Chargers on December 8, which kept him out of the next three games.
During that time, left guard Joe Thuney moved to the outside, while reserve offensive lineman Mike Caliendo took Thuney’s place.
When Reid spoke to reporters on Friday, he said that offensive line coach Andy Heck would be rotating all of his linemen through all of the positions — and on Tuesday, Reid amplified that.
“I’m going to see how it goes this week,” he told reporters. “I’m going to rotate them, so it gives us some flexibility there. But I was happy with what Joe and Mike did in there — but I also liked what D.J. did [during] those snaps that he had [against Denver].”
Humphries was the starting left tackle in the Week 18 loss to the Denver Broncos, playing 94% of the offensive snaps.
So, for now, the team’s plan remains a mystery — one that is not likely to be revealed until Saturday’s warmups on GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
