Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid rarely makes excuses after a loss, and he didn’t after the disappointing defeat in Super Bowl LIX. However, he weighed in on the ongoing debate regarding the Philadelphia Eagles’ ‘Tush Push’ play being criticized around the league.
“I understand how it can go both ways. I think it takes certain players to be able to do that. It’s not an easy thing for the center,” Reid said during Tuesday’s 2025 NFL Scouting Combine press conference in Indianapolis, Indiana. “I was close to their center, so I know that’s not an easy thing to do. My hat goes off to them for making it as consistent as they are doing it.”
The Green Bay Packers were recently revealed to be the team that submitted paperwork to try to ban the effective short-yardage play. The team cited several factors for their proposal, with the risk of injury leading the way.
“Now, there are other things you have to look at. You have to look at the injuries, whatever the other deals are that they evaluate on it,” said Reid. “When Jason Kelce is saying it destroyed him, that itself is an alarm. So I don’t have all that information. But it’s a heck of a play, I know that.”
The Eagles have often referred to the play as the ‘Brotherly Shove’ and have had other teams try to replicate it in recent years without the same level of success.
