The Andy Reid coaching tree may have added another branch recently, with a former player named as a college football head coach. The Kansas City Chiefs are off this weekend due to their Christmas Day victory, but Reid’s presence was felt through a special congratulatory message to Michael Vick on the FOX NFL Sunday pregame show.
Vick was recently hired as the new head coach for the Norfolk State Spartans and was ending his tenure as an analyst on the network, but not before they surprised him with a video.
“Michael Vick: The new head coach of Norfolk State. Man, is that school lucky to have you? You’re gonna do a great job. (Those) kids are fortunate to have you, probably most of all, to learn from, and you’ll be awesome,” said Reud. You’ll be great for the University, and I love ya, and I know you’re gonna do a great job for ’em.” So all the best going forward, and I’m now a Norfolk fan.”
This was a heartfelt gesture by Reid for Vick, whom he coached while with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2009 to 12. Reid notably gave Vick another chance after being briefly out of the league.
