The Kansas City Chiefs won the Divisional matchup against the Houston Texans on Saturday, 23-14, earning another trip to the AFC Championship game. The running game became a productive weapon for the offense to help seal the victory in the second half led by veteran Kareem Hunt.
The Chiefs often went to Hunt with the lead to milk the clock and wear down Texans defenders. During his postgame press conference, he shared his mindset heading into his postseason return.
“Very high. I had to keep myself levelheaded and not be too excited. I had to just come out there and just play football.” said Hunt. “Treat it like another game, but run a little harder.”
Hunt finished the game with 44 yards rushing and a touchdown, averaging 5.5 yards per carry. He was utilized more in the second half, while starter Isuah Pacheco played most of the first half against a stingy Houston defense. The veteran running back appreciates his opportunities whenever he can get on the field.
“It means everything. I am going to make the most of the opportunity. That is what I do every time I touch the ball.” said Hunt. “I am going to make the most of it and find a way to put the team in a position to be successful.”
The Chiefs will likely continue to play both running backs and stay with whoever has the most momentum in the game as they progress in the postseason.
