Kansas City Chiefs general manager Brett Veach has earned a reputation for collecting and developing young talent that has impacted the active roster. The players he’s added to the practice squad over the years have contributed to Super Bowl runs, and he’s already retained more talent on reserve/future contracts.
Last week, Kansas City announced the re-signing of cornerback Darius Rush, who spent the 2024 season on the practice squad. Rush, a rookie 2023 fifth-round pick of the Indianapolis Colts, was a training camp cut in August that year and was quickly signed by the Chiefs. He floated between the active roster and practice squad that season before briefly moving on to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Rush returned to Kansas City last October for his second stint on the practice squad. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 198 pounds, he was a standout player during his time with the South Carolina Gamecocks. In 2022, as a redshirt senior, Rush had 38 tackles, seven passes broken up, two interceptions, and one forced fumble.

Although he hasn’t seen much time on the active roster in the NFL, he is still regarded as a player with high potential. The 2025 season could be his breakout moment in Steve Spagnuolo’s defense.
