The Kansas City Chiefs have produced fairy-tale endings by winning back-to-back Super Bowl championships. They’ll now help provide holiday cheer by partnering on a Hallmark holiday movie.
On Tuesday, the Chiefs announced a collaboration with Hallmark to produce Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story. The movie will begin production next month in Kansas City, including at Arrowhead Stadium.
“We are honored to partner with Hallmark on a project as unique as this,” Chiefs President Mark Donovan said. “As a club, we pride ourselves on exploring new ways to grow our brand, as well as connect with new audiences. This partnership unites two passionate fanbases and gives us an opportunity to show Chiefs Kingdom’s energy and tradition on one of the most-watched channels during the holiday season.”
Skydance Media and the NFL combine to form Skydance Sports, which will executive produce the movie. On Tuesday night, Kansas City will light the downtown skyline purple and red to commemorate the partnership.
Tyler Hynes, Hunter King, and Ed Begley Jr. will star in a made-for-TV movie that will be released as part of Hallmark’s annual Countdown to Christmas event.
According to the press release’s summary, King will play Alana, an avid Chiefs supporter vying to win “Fan of the Year.” She meets Derrick (Hynes), a fan engagement director who is judging the contest.
“It’s clear there’s a spark between them, but when her grandfather’s (Begley Jr.) vintage Chiefs, good luck winter hat goes missing, Alana begins to doubt everything she believed about fate, destiny and even questions her future with Derrick – unless, that is, a little Christmas magic can throw a Hail Mary,” the summary said.
The Chiefs, who will also play on Christmas Day for the second straight year, appear to be embracing their fanbase’s recently expanded demographic with the upcoming Hallmark project.
