The Kansas City Chiefs will have to contend with an all-new format for kickoffs during the NFL’s 2024 season, which debuted on Thursday night during the league’s annual Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio.
The rule changes, which were made to improve player safety while incentivizing teams to return kicks, were controversial when formally adopted earlier this year, but it took a full-scale demonstration in the preseason for many fans to wrap their heads around the differences between the new and old formats.
