Ernest Lee “Tré” Spivey III (b. Feb. 7, 2005) is a talented young wide receiver with quality bloodlines from Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona, who is majoring in architecture and specializes in good practice habits, route running, and catching passes in traffic.
He played against both SEMO and Baylor in 2023 as he retained his redshirt. He hauled in a beautiful 24-yard reception from Avery Johnson in the season opener against SEMO.
I look for much more of this from Spivey in 2024, and based on what the coaches are saying, he appears to be a lock to live within the two-deep all year and produce more plays.
Last week, assistant head coach Van Malone had this to say about Spivey’s growth:
I’ve been impressed with Tre Spivey(’s) size and his ability to be able to stretch the field.
Fellow wide receiver Keagan Johnson echoed those comments at the start of fall camp:
And we have Tre Spivey, who’s a super athletic guy, and he’ll definitely help the receiver room this year.
Finally, head coach Chris Klieman seems to have great confidence in Spivey, lumping him in with two returning starters:
We have some really good wide receivers in Jayce Brown and Keagan Johnson and Tre Spivey, guys who are getting better and better. We think we have our best on-paper offense. Now we’ve got to put it together on the field.
A three-sport athlete (including baseball) who prepped under head coach Michael Zdebski, he was viewed as the 70th-best wide receiver in the Class of 2023 by 247Sports, while On3 and Rivals both rated him as the eighth-best overall prospect in the state of Arizona.
Spivey totaled nearly 1,000 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns for the Huskies over his final two seasons, was named one of Arizona’s top 10 high school wide receivers entering 2022 by The Arizona Republic, and was selected to play in the U.S. Army Bowl in Frisco, Texas.
He picked K-State over offers from practically half of the “new” Big 12 Conference (Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Kansas and Oklahoma State), plus Colorado State, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Portland State, San Diego State, UNLV, Utah State, Washington, Washington State and Wisconsin, as well as recruiting interest from Air Force, Army, Cincinnati and UCLA.
Spivey’s lead recruiter was former K-State wide receivers coach Thad Ward.
His father, Junior Spivey, was a Major League Baseball player for five seasons with Arizona, Milwaukee and Washington after playing two years at Cowley County Community College.
Oh, and did I mention Tre’s little brother Kingston is a very promising young cornerback who has already attended a K-State summer camp? Here’s hoping this becomes the newest recruiting pipeline family name for K-State!
