Rice prepped under head coach Vernon Fox at Faith Lutheran High School in Las Vegas, where he was regarded as the 19th-best prospect in Nevada for the Class of 2021 by ESPN.
He started playing football during his junior year of high school, a season in which he caught 17 passes for 377 yards and five touchdowns.
Rice also competed in track and field — setting the school records for the 100-meter, 200-meter, 4×100-meter and 4×200-meter relays — in addition to basketball.
His father, Rodney, played football at BYU before spending the 1989 (New England Patriots) and 1990 (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) seasons in the National Football League, while his brother, DeVon, is an incoming freshman running back for the Wildcats.
