Kansas State shows off winning attitude in blowout win over Arizona
Well, that was fun!
On a perfect night for football, Kansas State took the field in a non-conference game against new Big 12 foe Arizona. The Prairie Cats mauled the Desert Cats 31-7 in a contest that started close and didn’t really ramp up until the second half.
The Avery Johnson show was thrilling in part, dismaying in part, and for a brief moment at the end of the first half, a downright head scratcher. The kid can run, we all know this, and when he’s on, he can be a good passer too. He’s young, he’s going to make mistakes, but Johnson is also a great frontrunner. When the team is ahead, he knows how to step on the gas and get the job done. Hopefully, he’ll grow into the QB role enough that he can show that same skillset when the game is still in doubt.
The defense showed up. Arizona was held to 324 yards on offense, its lowest total in two years. That includes holding those Wildcats to just 56 yards on the ground. But the key play was definitely Keenan Garber’s balletic interception in the end zone, where he flew in front of the receiver to snag the ball cleanly out of the air, a thing of beauty that will be preserved in highlight reels forever.
And speaking of highlight reels, Dylan Edwards can flat out fly and Special Teams U is back!
Special kudos to the crowd at The Bill last night. I’m convinced the Arizona drive that stalled out through multiple penalties was because of the crowd. We need more of that throughout the season.
Meanwhile, Kansas State is 3-0, and with our team already back in the clubhouse, we can just sit back and enjoy an entire day of college football. This is your open thread. Make it yours.
