Drew takes a look at K-State’s new weapon at slot receiver.
Note:
Now that National Signing 2025 Vol 1 is in the books, it’s time to take a look at the fruits of the coaching staffs’ labor. Keep in mind, this isn’t a player “evaluation”. I don’t get to look at enough film to evaluate high school recruits. I’m going to give you the best-case scenario for a player, knowing full well, not everyone will work out as planned.

What He Brings to Kansas State
Concepcion, a 3*(85), 5’10”, 170-pound wide receiver out of Chambers High School in Charlotte, North Carolina committed to Kansas State over offers from Virginia Tech, Charlotte, Miami, Indiana, Liberty, and NC State. At one point he was an NC State commit, and it was a rather shocking development when he decommited from the Wolfpack considering his older brother Kevin was a star receiver for NC State. It makes more sense now that Keven is in the portal.
Nunu profiles as a slot receiver at Kansas State. That’s one place the Wildcats could use an upgrade after failing to find a replacement for Phillip Brooks. Avery needs a quick receiver capable of getting open on simple option routes on third down. This team had solid “get open down the field” guys but was missing a guy capable of finding openings in the second level on 3rd down. Concepcion, in theory, brings that ability to offense. I was also intrigued by the downfield ability he flashes in his highlight package. He does a good job of stacking defenders on his back and making plays. I don’t think that’ll be his primary function in the K-State offense, but like the Wildcats did with Brooks, I wouldn’t be surprised to see an occasional deep seam route out of the slot with Concepcion on the field.
I do want to mention Concepcion’s brother, Kevin, the former ACC Freshman of the Year at NC State who is now in the transfer portal. Some of y’all may remember Kevin from the Pop Tart Bowl where he had 7 receptions for 72 yards and 3 rushing attempts for 23 yards. I have no idea if K-State has a shot at landing Kevin, but they probably have a better shot Nunu in the fold. In no way are these two things connected. K-State takes Nunu if he’s an only child, and Kevin will have tons of portal options, including a rumored visit to Alabama in the next week. It would be nice to at least get Kevin on campus and let him check things out. You never know what might happen.
