The stellar point guard will take her talents from Manhattan to Seattle
The all-time assists leader for Kansas State, a WBCA and AP All-America honorable mention selection in 2025, Serena Sundell has been selected with the 26th overall pick by the Seattle Storm.
Sundell came to K-State with the Glenn twins, a trio from a stellar AAU team that promised big returns. Sundell went on to lead the Wildcats to 93 wins in her four seasons as a starter — including K-State’s first Sweet 16 appearance in over 20 years — four years where she started and played in 139 games (both are K-State records). As mentioned, she holds the school record, but also ranks fourth in Big 12 history for career assists with 811 and is second in program history for career assists per game at 5.83 apg.
But it wasn’t just feeding her teammates, Sundell also finished her career in 6th all-time at K-State with 1,771 points. That total put her in some rarified air as well, becoming the first Wildcat, and 14th overall in NCAA Division I women’s basketball history, with 1,700 or more career points and 800 or more career assists.
In addition to her two AA Honorable Mention nods this season, Sundell is also a two-time All-Big 12 First Team selection (2024 & 2025), and earned All-Big 12 HM in her freshman and sophomore campaigns and was a member of the 2022 All-Big 12 Freshman team.
Seattle gets a player, that very surprisingly fell to them to open the 3rd round, with incredible court vision and a great team leader and teammate. She’s also incredibly tough, not just shooting from outside, but banging around in the interior (and often switching to take on smaller 5’s on defense when needed), and playing hurt plenty of times during her illustrious career.
Congrats to Serena!
