Recapping the week, and previewing tonight’s game in Boulder
We’ve got the late game tonight, so make sure you pace yourself today, and probably load up on some extra legal stimulants (caffeine, mostly) to make sure you’re ready to go!
Also, today’s Slate serves as the game thread for today’s early games.
## Basketball
While the MittieCats are the preseason favorites and feature the preseason player of the year, the prediction for the TangCats is much more modest.
Headlined by Co-Big 12 Preseason Newcomer of the year Coleman Hawkins, the Wildcats have been picked 8th by the Big 12 coaches in the preseason poll, between Texas Tech and BYU. For the billionth (20th) time since the start of the Big 12, KU has been picked as favorites to win the league, but first-place votes were spread among four of the top five teams.
## Soccer
The SoccerCats took an early lead with a 5th-minute goal, but the visiting Utes scored twice after the intermission to continue K-State’s now 9-game winless streak. The Cats are now 3-8-3 on the season, 0-5-2 in Big 12 play.
Next up for the Cats is a home tilt against BYU on Monday night at Buser Family Park in MHK. Match is at 7pm CT, and will be streamed on ESPN+.
## Volleyball
The VolleyCats dug themselves an early 0-2 hole, but took all three sets to finish the match and pick up their first Big 12 road victory of the season, winning 3-2 at Cincinnati Thursday night. With the win, the Wildcats moved above .500 in Big 12 play at 3-2, and moved to 5-9 overall on the season. The Cats were led by seniors Liz Gregorski and Izzi Szulczewski, as the duo combined for 66 kills and each had double-doubles on the night.
Next up, the Wildcats head out further east for a match against West Virginia on Sunday afternoon. The match is at noon Central, and will be on ESPN+.
## Football
Tonight’s main event is a return to a rivalry that was paused a decade ago when Colorado took their ball and ran off to join the Pac 12. The grass isn’t always greener…
The amazing Drew Schneider has all your previews for tonight’s contest:
Jon also has your full How to Watch details.
The the topic of the staff roundtable this week is offensive coordinator Conor Riley. I think the consensus is that we’re not unhappy with the job he’s doing, but we’ve still got a ways to go.
We’ll have your game thread later this evening. Until then, have fun but make sure you’re ready to cheer on your Kansas State Wildcats tonight!!
