At the end of every basketball game, you want the ball in your best player’s hands. Unfortunately, Markquis Nowell didn’t even get that chance.
The No. 3 seed Kansas State Wildcats were unable to get off a shot to try and tie the game at the end of regulation vs. No. 9 seed FAU on Saturday night.
Nowell, after getting pressured by the FAU defense at the logo, dished the ball to a teammate and never got it back. The Owls stole the ball, effectively ending the game in the process.
Nowell finished with 30 points and 12 assists, but falls one game short of the Final Four.
“Dear Markquis Nowell, Thanks for a brilliant NCAA Tournament and for helping put Kansas State back on the national map. Walk proud. Today. Tomorrow. And Forever. Sincerely, America,” said Jon Rothstein.

“I will remember this Markquis Nowell tournament run for the rest of my days. Ended up being more Carsen Edwards than Kemba but still absolutely legendary all the same. #Respec1,” Mark Titus wrote.

“Man what a sad ending to a magical season for Kansas State. The NY natives Markquis Nowell and Ish Massoud had the ball but couldn’t get a shot up to try to tie it. Another great run to the Elite Eight for the Wildcats,” PJ Green wrote.
