Going into today’s game against Kansas, the Iowa State Cyclones basketball team had lost eight of their last nine meetings. But after today’s result, they’re now riding a two-game home streak against the NCAA blue blood.
The No. 23 Cyclones beat the No. 7 Jayhawks today in a 79-75 win at the Hilton Coliseum. Tre King led the way for Iowa State with 21 points – the most of any player on either team – and had a team-high nine rebounds to boot.
King’s big performance was aided by Keshon Gilbert’s 16 points and Curtis Jones’ 15 points. Tamin Lipsey had 10 points and a team-leading eight assists.
After the final horn buzzed, the fans in Ames, Iowa couldn’t contain their emotions and spilled out onto the floor to celebrate with their basketball team.

But while it may have been an upset by a lower-ranked team over a higher-ranked one, it wasn’t exactly an upset by the sports books. The Cyclones were actually 4.5-point favorites heading into the game and would’ve covered the spread were it not for a pointless three-pointer by the Jayhawks as time expired.
As a result, fans in the comments were a bit confused as to why the Iowa State fans were so pumped by the result.
Nevertheless, it’s the Cyclones who now boast two wins in their last three over the Jayhawks and back-to-back at home.
That’s worth celebrating and probably will be.
