The Kansas Jayhawks shocked the football world in a stunning victory over the No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners today and tore down the goalposts after the game. But with good reason.
The Jayhawks’ win over the Sooners marked a sensational milestone for the once-maligned football program. It was their first win over the Sooners since 1997 and ended an 18-game losing streak against the Sooners.
The win was also the first for the Jayhawks against a top 10 team since they defeated Virginia Tech in the 2008 Orange Bowl.
So, yeah, the Jayhawks fans had a pretty good reason to take down the goalposts after the game. And where did they take it? The nearby Potter Lake.

Mere minutes later, someone took a picture of the goalpost sinking into the iconic Lawrence campus lake.Â

There’s a good chance that the Kansas football program will face some punishments for what they did on Saturday. But after a quarter century of farming Ls against the Sooners, no financial price is too high for memories like this one.
Kansas has now secured bowl eligibility for the second year in a row – a feat they’ve only achieved one other time in history.
Head coach Lance Leipold deserves a ton of credit for the work he’s done. He’s done such a great job that the Jayhawks may not be able to hold onto him for long…
