Driving Everyone Crazy: Girod speaks on money in college athletics
The federal judge overseeing the key lawsuit in the matter hasn’t yet approved the settlement agreement between the NCAA, universities and aggrieved student-athletes, but earlier this month she did provide indications that she intends to do so. The NCAA on Monday took a step in that direction too. It approved a series of rules that eliminates the prohibition of directly paying student-athletes. Those new rules will go into effect on July 1, as long as the court settlement is approved by then.

On April 6, just 10 days after Texas Tech was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament, Darrion Williams announced he would enter the transfer portal. Among all the solid players and prospects of every sort in the portal, Williams is different.
The third best available – according to 247Sports – is a true difference-maker.
Former Big 12 star could be next portal commitment
Kansas basketball is finally starting to finish piecing together its roster for the upcoming season. Bill Self and the Jayhawks underwent a complete transformation, losing three starters to graduation and every other 2024-25 contributor with remaining eligibility to the transfer portal.
He was one of several players lacking eligibility to enter the portal, as many await potential court rulings or NCAA waivers that grant another year of eligibility. “Chances have increased of getting that extra year, so I don’t really know what to expect, but it’s kind of a backup option,” Mayo told The Star. “I mean, returning to Kansas is always going to be an option.”

I don’t have anything here so we’re going to crowdsource this one with one rule: It has to be something positive or interesting. There’s plenty of bad stuff going on that we all can’t get away from so we don’t need that shared today.
QOTD: Working on any side projects around your place or have you recently completed one?
I’ll go first. I’ve been at my current house for 3 years this summer and I’ve got 2.5 acres of pretty flat ground, so I’m starting a backyard golf green with two tee boxes. This will be the first year and I’ve got my expectations set low due to time constraints, being cheap, and knowing how hard it is to maintain a decent green. But I’m going for it.
After laying out the area with the best grass, I’ve scalped it down to start killing the random fescue and weeds in the area. Added sand a few weeks ago and have aerated a couple times to loosen up the dirt to get the sand mixing with the soil and purchased a manual reel mower that can cut to a ¼ inch. My plan for this year is to get the area cleaned up and when summer comes I’m going to transplant some bermuda and fertilize the hell out of it to encourage spread. If I can get a weekly shower and warm weather in May and June, I’ll be in business.
It’s never going to be amazing but I’m hoping to get something I can hit to from 120 yards and be able to chip around for a few years. If I’m successful over the next few years, I’ll invest a bit more time and money to see if I can get something that I can actually putt on.
I’m fully expecting to abandon this by the middle of July but I’m optimistic right now!
