Ah, yes. Simpson. I’ll have my lunch now. A single pillow of shredded wheat… some steamed toast and a dodo egg. But I think the dodo went extinct- Get going!

Several Jayhawks impressing through two weeks of NFL preseason – KU Sports
The ranks of former Jayhawks going through their first NFL preseason have thinned considerably over the course of the month.
Assessing KU players with uncertain roles ahead of depth-chart release – KU Sports
It’s filled with the word “or,” it can be arbitrary about how many backups it lists at given spots and it doesn’t necessarily reflect how some positions on the roster rotate more than others. It certainly won’t hold firm over the course of the season; last year, for example, eventual Big 12 award winner Austin Booker began the year as a co-backup to Hayden Hatcher.
How the rest of KU’s true freshmen have fared in fall camp – KU Sports
Defensive ends DJ Warner and Dakyus Brinkley have garnered plenty of attention because of their high ratings and their opportunity to play immediately given KU’s lack of depth at the pass-rush spot. Isaiah Marshall has received the natural scrutiny that comes with being an apparent quarterback with the future, and his on-field resemblance to current starter Jalon Daniels certainly helps. And running back Harry Stewart III and cornerback Jalen Todd have earned such consistent praise from coaches, even dating back to the spring, that it’s impossible to ignore.

‘I Am the Only Person Stupid Enough to Speak After Michelle Obama’ – The New York Times
Whoever set the schedule for the second night of the Democratic National Convention certainly did Barack Obama no favors. As the former president admitted when he took the stage on Tuesday night, “I am the only person stupid enough to speak after Michelle Obama.”
DNC Roll Call: Every State’s Song to Nominate Kamala Harris
As DNC Secretary Jason Rae called on each delegation from the stage, DJ Cassidy cued up a song for each state — except in the case of Georgia, when Atlanta native Lil Jon paraded down the aisle in person to perform “Turn Down for What” — before one or several politicians or notable figures said a few words and announced their delegation’s support for Harris. It felt like a party, one with a hell of a soundtrack and, in Wisconsin’s case, some colorful headwear.
Donald Trump’s Campaign Has Fired Back At NBA Coach Steve Kerr – The Spun
“Steve Kerr said tonight that ‘speaking out about politics these days comes with risks… but it was too important as an American citizen to not speak up.’ This is the same Steve Kerr that had no comment when he was asked about China’s human rights abuses,” the Trump War Room account wrote.

The ‘song of the summer’ sweepstakes are a tie, at least for now : NPR
It’s an uneventful week atop the pop charts, but there’s still news worth noting, as Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department holds on at No. 1 for a 15th nonconsecutive week, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West takes a tumble and Chappell Roan hits a new chart peak. Over on the Hot 100 songs chart, Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” extends its run at No. 1 for a sixth nonconsecutive week, tying the other song of the summer (that’d be Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen) for most weeks atop the chart in 2024.
Action-Packed Superhero Movie Hated For All The Wrong Reasons | GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT
I’ve never understood the hate for 2013’s Thor: The Dark World. It’s not the best film in the MCU and it’s not the worst. It’s exactly what it should be—a fun, vfx-heavy Marvel blockbuster. I can’t help but wonder if at least part of the film’s low spot in fans’ rankings has something to do with it being one of the first MCU films to be released after the game-changing Avengers.
Iconic Comedy Series On Paramount+ Still Needs Long-Awaited Spinoff Movie | GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT
Workaholics was originally created and developed for television by Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine, Anders Holm, and Kyle Newacheck after a Comedy Central executive discovered the troupe’s sketch comedy videos on YouTube. The cast of Workaholics is rounded out by a number of comedic greats, including Maribeth Monroe, Erik Griffin, and 22 Jump Street‘s Jillian Bell.

A whole bunch of great shows just came to Netflix courtesy of AMC, including the excellent historical horror-survival-drama The Terror which I can’t recommend highly enough. You can see all the new AMC shows that just arrived on Netflix right here.

The Far Right Is Becoming Obsessed With Race and IQ – The Atlantic
That term—noticer—has become a thinly veiled shorthand within segments of the right to refer to someone who subscribes to “race science” or “race realism,” the belief that racial inequities are biological. In his interview with Kirk, Sailer noticed that “Blacks tend to commit murder about 10 times as often per capita as whites, and it’s not just all explained by poverty.” Sailer, one of the most prominent peddlers of race science in the United States, has made a career out of noticing things. (Last year, he published an anthology of his writing titled Noticing.) He has claimed that Black people tend to have lower IQs than white people (while Asians and Ashkenazi Jews tend to have higher IQs). Sailer says that nurture plays a role, but generally concludes that differences between racial groups exist in large part because of inherent traits.
