According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Kansas City Royals have signed Adam Frazier to a one-year, $2 million deal with an $8.5 million mutual option for 2025. Frazier, 32, is a veteran of eight years who started his career with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played for Pittsburgh from 2016-2021, making the All-Star Game in his final season with the club. He was traded to the San Diego Padres and then ended up in Seattle in 2022 and Baltimore in 2023. He’s been to the playoffs in each of the last three years of his career and he will bring playoff experience to the team looking to get back to their winning ways.

Kansas City Royals Add Adam Frazier
Since the Pirates traded Frazier partway through the 2021 season, Frazier struggled with both San Diego and Seattle before catching on with the Orioles. Despite his playing time decreased by the presence of young, up-and-coming players vying for playing time. He still got semi-playing time in Baltimore, slashing .240/.300/.396 with a 93 wRC+ in 455 plate appearances. The approximate league average offense and rough defense (-15 OAA, -1DRS) at second base isn’t an impact signing. However, the addition of Frazier to the team lineup could off the club a stable, veteran solution.
One of his most attractive traits is his defensive versatility, as he’s played all three outfield positions including three infield positions to left of first base. However, he could be stretched at shortstop at second, or even in center. Despite the inconsistent track record at the plate, Frazier is a solid fit for the Royals. Kansas City is a team that is still trying to chart its path forward. They have several infielders and outfielders who are still trying to get accustomed to the major league environment.
Kansas City is looking to take a step forward winning games after many dismal seasons. It seems like 2024 could be where things could go right.
