Tune in to see the Royals back in the post-season!
The Royals are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2015, becoming just the second team to reach the playoffs the year after losing 100+ games. They will be the #5 seed and will take on the #4 seed, the Baltimore Orioles, who were the top Wild Card team and won 91 games this year. The two teams met in the 2014 American League Championship Series, with the Royals sweeping the Orioles to win the pennant that year.
The Wild Card series begins with Game 1 on Tuesday, October 1 at Camden Yards in Baltimore at 3:08 CT. The game will air on ESPN 2 with Sean McDonough, Jessica Mendoza, and former Orioles pitcher Ben McDonald will be in the booth. Games will also be available on the ESPN App and in Spanish on ESPN Deportes. Left-hander Cole Ragans (11-9 3.14 ERA) is scheduled to face right-hander Corbin Burnes (15-9 2.92 ERA).
Games are also available on the Royals Radio Network, including 96.5 The Fan and 610 Sports in Kansas City. Hall of Fame broadcaster Denny Matthews will travel to Baltimore for the call. The national ESPN feed will air on 810 WHB.
The series is a best-of-three, with all three games played on consecutive days at the home field of the higher seed. The winner of this series will advance to the American League Divisional Series to play the #1 seed New York Yankees in a best-of-five series.
It has been raining in Baltimore, which could cause wet conditions, but the weather should clear up by game time.
Showers will continue today, tonight and tomorrow morning. But there’s promising news for the Orioles game tomorrow, as the rain may become more spotty by afternoon. @wbaltv11 #mdwx pic.twitter.com/ofsj9RyTHe
