Kansas City Royals superstar Bobby Witt Jr. was hit on the left forearm by a pitch today but will avoid a long absence, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. The Royals later announced that Witt has a forearm contusion, and X-rays showed no fracture. The timetable for Witt‘s return is currently unknown, but it looks like the worst-case scenario was avoided, which is great news for the Royals. For obvious reasons, Kansas City’s season would’ve changed completely if this had been a serious injury.

No Broken Bones After Bobby Witt Jr. Hit by Pitch
All Royals Fans Should Take a Deep Breath
All Royals fans should be breathing a sigh of relief right now. Not just because Witt Jr. avoided serious injury, but also because it happened in spring training. Opening Day is coming up fast, but there’s still time. The Royals will have every opportunity to make sure Witt fully recovers from this injury. It won’t hurt the Royals because these games don’t count.
The big question is, will Witt be ready for Opening Day? While that is a valid question, the Royals will be in no hurry to get him back on the field. They’ll want to make sure that he’s back to full strength. It wouldn’t be worth rushing him back early in the season and risking him getting injured again.
Manager Matt Quatraro said Bobby Witt Jr. “said initially that he just lost feeling in his fingers, but he said it was coming back. They’re going to get an X-ray just to make sure.”

Witt Cannot Be Matched
With Witt’s skill set, he is a player who simply cannot be matched with what he brings to the field. He’s the franchise player in Kansas City, and the Royals will be nothing in 2025 if he’s not healthy. If recovering from the injury means Opening Day is out of the picture, the Royals will have no issue with Witt missing it.
There should be more information on his injury in the next day or two, but as of now, things are looking up. It’s always a grueling time as a baseball fan waiting on an injury update on a key player, but the prognosis of a contusion looks like Witt Jr. and the Royals dodged a bullet.
