The March 14 game will showcase the future.
Top Royals prospects will get their moment in the spotlight in the annual Spring Breakout game, to be held March 14 at 7:10 CT against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Jac Caglianone will show off his prodigious power on a roster that also includes former first-round picks Gavin Cross and Frank Mozzicato. Catcher Blake Mitchell is also on the roster, although he is currently out with a hand injury.
Other top names include pitchers Noah Cameron and Ben Kudrna, catcher Carter Jensen, and infielder Javier Vaz. You can watch games on MLB.com, MLB.TV and the MLB app. Last year the Royals beat the Brewers 4-3 in the Spring Breakout game on a walk-off wild pitch.
All 30 teams will participate in matchups from March 13-16. Roman Anthony and Kristian Campbell of the Red Sox, Brewers shortstop Jesus Made, Mariners shortstop Colt Emerson, Rockies pitcher Chase Dollander, and Pirates Bubba Chandler are among the top prospects on rosters.
The roster seems rather large for one seven-inning game – are you really going to need four catchers and eleven pitchers? But it is a showcase for talent and a recognition of achievement in the organization. Here is the complete Royals roster:
