Here are the 26 Royals ready to do battle on Opening Day.
The Royals have announced the 2025 Opening Day roster, with the final few bench spots and last starting pitcher spot falling into place over the last few weeks. The roster is as follows:
Catchers (2): Freddy Fermin, Salvador Perez
Infielders (6): Cavan Biggio, Jonathan India, Maikel Garcia, Michael Massey, Vinnie Pasquantino, Bobby Witt Jr.
Outfielders (5): Mark Canha, Dairon Blanco, Kyle Isbel, MJ Melendez, Hunter Renfroe
Starting pitchers (5): Kris Bubic, Michael Lorenzen, Seth Lugo, Cole Ragans, Michael Wacha
Relievers (8): Lucas Erceg, Carlos Estévez, Hunter Harvey, Sam Long, Daniel Lynch IV, John Schreiber, Chris Stratton, Angel Zerpa
Injured List (3): Alec Marsh, James McArthur, Kyle Wright
Three Royals will begin the season on the 15-day injured list: Alec Marsh, James McArthur, and Kyle Wright. Marsh is suffering from a shoulder impingement while Wright injured his hamstring in spring training. McArthur underwent elbow surgery. Vinnie Pasquantino suffered a hamstring strain on Saturday, but isn’t expected to miss time.
The Royals finalized the roster by selecting the contracts of non-roster invitees Cavan Biggio and Mark Canha, and designating Nick Pratto and Nelson Velázquez for assignment, with both players outrighted to Omaha. The team also lost reliever Carlos Hernández on waivers to the Phillies.
The Royals return 15 players from last year’s Opening Day roster on this year’s squad.
Our 26 as we open 2025.
