The offensive struggles continue.
The Royals lamented their inability to put together a big inning after last night’s loss:
Four innings later with one out, Drew Waters scored all the way from first on a triple by Kyle Isbel to make it 3-2 in favor of New York. Although Isbel scored the tying run on a groundout by Jonathan India, the threat came to an end when Witt flew out to left fielder Jasson Domínguez.
“We have to figure out a way to string some more things to put up crooked numbers,” Quatraro said.
Bobby Witt Jr. reflected on the day he played for the Yankees’ scout team ($):
Witt ended up pitching an inning and getting one at-bat. Batting practice was what he remembers most. He had been to a few games at Fenway Park as a fan. But having a chance to play there blew him away.
“It was cool, but I wore the Yankees’ uniform,” he said. “It was funny, but it was cool.”
North Kansas City appears to be back in play for a possible stadium site:
On Monday, the Missouri Senate passed legislation that would allow Clay County to create a sports complex authority, aiding such a path. Turns out, the Royals are a step ahead of that process. It is unclear when they renewed their interest in a site north of the river — or to what degree they’re actually considering it now — but multiple sources told The Star that the Royals have talked with the Merriman family, which controls a site encompassing nearly 100 acres in North Kansas City. The Royals also previously tasked developers to study the site.
Preston Farr at Farm to Fountains highlights some early standouts on the farm:
Figueroa was acquired from the Dodgers in the 2023 Ryan Yarbrough trade. He made his way to Low-A for the first time a year ago, and the power was apparent early on. As the season progressed, fatigue seemed to set in, and Figueroa had a difficult time maintaining production. He hit just .223 with a .303 on-base percentage. Still, a low strikeout rate and solid walk rate showed signs of a good approach. The power started to seep through once again in 2025. Across his first nine games, Figueroa has three home runs. He walked four times in just one of those nine games and has five total walks against four strikeouts thus far. There’s a good chance that Figueroa will spend a good chunk of time with Columbia, if not the full season ahead, but he is starting to look ready for a tougher challenge early on.
Four pitchers for Double-A Northwest Arkansas combined for a no-hitter.
The benches cleared during yesterday’s Pirates-Nationals game after a high and tight pitch. In that same game, Tommy Pham was retired on a rare 7-3 putout.
Umpire Hunter Wendelstedt exited the game after taking a line drive to the head.
A 105-year old veteran that survived the Pearl Harbor attack threw out the first pitch in Milwaukee.
Former Marlins GM Kim Ng was named commissioner of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League.
