Cole Ragans gets paid.
Jaylon Thompson has more on the Cole Ragans signing.
Ragans will enter his third season with the Royals. The contract extension came together quickly this week. The Royals met with his representation and hammered out a deal that made sense for both sides.
“It gives me a little security and … they kind of know what’s on the books,” Ragans said. “You know, (they can) get some other guys if that’s what they want to do and try to put the best team on the field to win. That’s our end goal — to win a championship.”
He also writes about Hunter Harvey’s return this year.
Missing the postseason didn’t sit too well. In October, Harvey focused heavily on resting to regain his strength. The additional rest weeks allowed him a somewhat normal start to his offseason pitching activities, even if it was delayed.
“I didn’t start until the middle of December,” Harvey said. “I normally start in November, but we started working out. We just waited a little bit to make sure everything was good.”
Now, Harvey is back healthy and ready to earn his roster spot. He hasn’t experienced pain or a setback since arriving in Royals camp.
And he covers the fifth starter competition.
“Just go out and pitch,” Bubic said of his mentality. “You know, the spots will take care of themselves at the end of camp. The way I’ve seen it, just the last few years and throughout my career so far, just because you break camp a certain way it doesn’t mean you are going to end the year that way. So we are going to need contributions from everybody in this clubhouse.
“Whether I am a starter or a reliever, I just want to pitch, pitch healthy, get outs and contribute.”
Anne Rogers talks to Carter Jensen about getting invited to big league camp.
When spring approached, Royals veterans like MJ Melendez and Bobby Witt Jr., among others, reached out to him as well.
“I got a bunch of texts from the guys,” Jensen said. “[Michael] Massey and Vinnie [Pasquantino] texted me and said, ‘Just come in here like you’re one of us.’ It’s pretty relieving to hear. I’m still a young guy, but to know that they’re saying to act like you’re one of the team, it’s pretty cool.”
She also writes about why Carlos Estévez changed his number.
